About Franz Ferdinand
Named after the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, whose assassination on the eve of WWI is regarded as the trigger for the Great War. Like their music, Franz Ferdinand (the band) just liked the way the name sounded, not trying to intellectualize it too much. But intellectual they are, nonetheless, with many references to the art world, including use of Russian avant-garde imagery on their album covers.
