About John Coltrane
Important as he was controversial, John Coltrane has certainly left his mark on jazz. This was acknowledged most recently in 2007, as John Coltrane, or the Trance as he was also referred to as, received a Pulitzer Prize Board Special Citation. In explaining the citation, Coltrane was described as being a masterful improviser, supreme musician and an iconic figure with a central role in the history of jazz.
